Seller states: This car was believed to be originally purchased by 20th CENTURY FOX, and was used as a limousine by movie legend SHIRLEY TEMPLE. The Series 80 had a reputation for exceptional build quality and considered one of America’s most glamorous automobiles of the immediate prewar era. The Series 80 Limited was priced from $1,553 to $1,952, more than twice the cost of the more basic Model 46 Business Coupe. While 1940 was the final year that side-mounted spares graced a Buick automobile, it was also the final year the Model 80 Limited was offered.This car received some mild customization WHEN NEW, by the legendary Los Angeles coachbuilder BOHMAN & SCHWARTZ. The side windows were removed, the gaps filled and wind wings were added. She has side curtains, which match the top. The red leather interior is gorgeous.According to a letter in the cars file, she not only has the Shirley Temple connection, but subsequent owners are listed as the late Lorin Tryon, co-founder of the Pebble Beach concourse d’Elegance, and the late Tom Barrett. She was also prominently featured at the famed PETERSON AUTO MUSEUM in LA.She was restored in the early 1970s, and is powered by an early 1950s Buick OHV straight-eight engine. The motor was detailed to mimic the correct period appearance of the original motor. She takes drive through a three speed, on-the column manual transmission, and retains her correct independent front suspension with coil springs, semi-floating rear axle, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. The engine compartment is well detailed. With a wheelbase of 133″, she is an imposing presence wherever she goes!!! Honored with the MOST DISTINGUISHED OPEN CAR at the 2001 Greenwich Concourse d’Elegance in Ct., this famous and iconic car remains in wonderful condition.
